We were deeply honoured by President Mary McAleese who visited on 18th January 2010 to open our 50th Anniversary celebrations. She was greeted by a Guard of Honour from 6th class and met Board of Management members before visiting our Special Needs Class children where children representing all classes in the school gave a presentation outlining the history of the school. Mrs. Ryan announced the President's arrival to both schools who were assembled in the Hall. The Presidential Salute was played on trumpets before Mrs.Woulfe, Chairperson of the Senior School spoke and welcomed the President. The children sang the Mercy Anthem, 'A Better Way', and President Mary McAleese spoke to all the children. She praised them, asked them to sing Happy Birthday to the school, which they did, and gave a night off homework. Mr. Cahill, Chairperson of the Junior School thanked the President and Mrs. McCarthy announced her departure. She met and spoke with parents in the entrance foyer before leaving.
The President's visit was a highlight of the school calendar. The memory of that special day will live in the school community for a long time. We are indeed privileged to have hosted her.
