School Policies

School Policies.

The overall approach to teaching and learning is one of integration which includes a blend of traditional and progressive styles. Much use is made of the environment as a means of building up a store of general knowledge.

Policies in relation to :

Usáid na Gaeilge.

It is the school policy to encourage the children to use Gaeilge mar gnáth chaint and lae- asking questions, going to siopa etc.

Ongoing Assessment,Record keeping, Reports.

Each child's progress is evaluated on a regular basis. Reports are sent home annually and a copy of same is kept on file. Each child's progress from second standard to sixth is monitored in this way. Children are psychologically assessed with the consent or at the request of the parents when it seems a particular child has a learning or behavioural difficulty and is not adjusting to school life.

Learning Support (English) and Resource Teachers.

The school has the services of a full time Learning Support Teacher who plays an important role in the assessment and evaluation process. It is our policy that the teacher works in co-operation with the class teacher and parents. While children in fifth and sixth class frequently attend learning support classes, it is school policy to direct remediation mainly towards children in the junior classes where the concentration will be on reading, spelling etc. Two Resource teachers also help children having difficulty with language and maths.

Special Needs.

There are two special needs classes in the senior school to cater for the needs of those children who have been assessed and identified by an Educational Psychologist as requiring special class placement.

Meetings.

Parent teacher meetings usually take place before Halloween break. We would encourage all parents to avail of the opportunity to attend these meetings. There will also be short meeting for the Communion and Confirmation classes.
